Warrant Officer Kevin Blake
After 35 plus years of loyal and dedicated service, Warrant Officer Kevin Blake will be retiring from the CAF on 1 Dec 2021.
WO Kevin Blake was born 15 January 1964 in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. After completing high school in 1982 he was employed in the civilian work force for a couple short years until he enrolled into the CF as a MSE Op in January 1986. After his time at CFRS Cornwallis and completion of QL3’s at CFSAL (now CFLTC), WO Blake was posted to 2 Svc Bn Petawawa where he spent his first 4 years with Transportation and Administration Companies. The summer of 1988 found WO Blake training for his first operational tour as part of the UNIIMOG (Iraq) deployment, returning home just in time for Christmas that same year. In 1990, upon being promoted to Cpl, he was posted to 427 Tactical Helicopter Sqn in Petawawa. After 4 years of playing with the Air Force in Petawawa, WO Blake was posted to a “Real” Air Force Base – 19 Wing Comox where he was employed in positions such as Dispatch, Refuelling, Heavy Equipment as well as Training. The summer of 1995 took WO Blake into training for his second tour this time to Haiti for 6 months in the Caribbean sun.
Upon completion of his time in CFB Comox, WO Blake was promoted to MCpl and shipped off to CFB Trenton in June of 2001, where he was employed primarily as a dispatcher. His time in Trenton was a rocky period as he was diagnosed with Gardner’s Syndrome and had to deal with major surgery to battle the disease. Obviously… he beat it as he still here. The time in Trenton was a short period as the career shop posted him to sunny CFB Dundurn in July of 2003. During the next three years, he was again employed as the dispatcher and upon completion of the Safety Supervisor’s Course (now RVSS) in Borden, he returned to the Safety Cell in Dundurn. After a year of safety, WO Blake found himself as the IC of SPV; which mainly worked down range maintaining the fireguards and fighting range fires.
In 2006, WO Blake was promoted to Sgt and posted to CFB Shilo where he was the NCO IC of GPV Ops. Again a short stay in Shilo in Oct 2008, he decided to retire and accept a Class B recruiting position at CFRC Sudbury. Moving back to Northern Ontario gave him the opportunity to be close to home and be with family. With the cut backs in the recruiting world, WO Blake found his position in Sudbury being cut, so in July of 2010 he applied for a Component Transfer back into the Regular Force and found himself posted back to where this circus ride started….2 Svc Bn Garrison Petawawa.
Upon returning to Petawawa WO Blake was employed as the Admin Coy Tn Sgt. In the fall of 2012 he found himself in Gagetown doing work up training for Op Attention where he was employed as the IC of Driver Trg…mentoring the Afghanistan Army on Driving Skills. Upon returning to 2 Svc Bn after the tour, WO Blake received a posting message to 450 THS, where he was the Unit Transportation Supervisor and the unit’s only Trucker until 2014. Upon promotion to his current rank in 2015, WO Blake was posted back to 2 Svc Bn TN Coy for a period of 1 year where he was the Alpha Pl WO. The summer of 2016 he was employed as the 2 CMBG HQ G3 Training WO, where he was in charge of ensuring all brigade units maintain their operational readiness by means of Ammo requirements, IBTS and career course offerings. July 2018 found WO Blake returning to 450 THS as the TEME WO while fulfilling his three year period of retention.
Upon retirement WO Blake plans on continuing with his hobby of woodworking while keeping all 10 digits. WO Blake will be staying in the Pembroke area and also be relaxing at home enjoying time with his loving wife Janice and their two Chocolate Labs, Dill & Whiskey.
There are too many to name however, Kevin would like to thank all those with whom he had the honour to have met and worked with over the years. He cherishes the camaraderie and friendships that have been built over the years. He looks forward to having a few “pops” with those who happen to pass by along the way during their travels. It truly has been an honour and privilege to serve with fellow soldiers and more importantly MSE Op’s across CAF.

L’adjudant Kevin Blake est né le 15 Janvier 1964 à Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Après avoir complété son diplôme d’étude secondaire en 1982 il fut employé en tant que civil pour quelques années pour ensuite s’enrôlé dans les FAC en tant que conducteur MMS en Janvier 1986. Après avoir complété son NQ3 au CILFC et suivant son passage à l’ERFC
Cornwallis, l’adjudant Blake fut muté au 2ième Bn de service à Petawawa ou il passa ses 4
premières années dans les compagnies de transport et d’administration. Lors de l’été
1988, l’adjudant Blake s’entrainera pour son premier déploiement opérationnel dans le
cadre d’UNIIMOG (Irak) et retournera à la maison juste à temps pour le temps des fêtes
de la même année. En 1990, après avoir été promu au rang de caporal, il fut muté à la
427ième Escadron d’opérations spéciales d’aviation à Petawawa. Après avoir joué pendant
4 ans avec la force aérienne à Petawawa, l’adjudant Blake fut muté à une vraie base de
l’armée aérienne, la 19ième Escadre à Comox, ou il fut employé dans des positions telles
que répartiteur, ravitaillement, équipement lourd ainsi que dans l’instruction. Lors de
l’été 1995, il s’entrainera à nouveau afin de prendre part à son deuxième déploiement,
cette fois pour 6 mois sous le soleil des caraïbes à Haïti.
Suivant son séjour à la BFC Comox, l’adjudant Blake fut promu au rang de CplC et muté
à la BFC Trenton en Juin 2001, ou il fut employé principalement en tant que répartiteur.
Son temps à Trenton ne sera pas de tout repos puisque il sera diagnostiqué avec le
syndrome de Gardner et eut à subir une opération majeure afin de vaincre la maladie.
Bien évidemment, il en sortira gagnant puisqu’il est toujours parmi nous. Il ne séjournera
pas longtemps à Trenton puisqu’il sera de nouveau muté par les gestionnaires de carrières
à la BFC Dundurn en Juillet 2003. Durant les 3 prochaines années, il sera encore employé
en tant que répartiteur jusqu’à ce qu’il complète son cours de section de la sécurité
routière et de véhicules (SSRV) à Borden et retournera intégrer la cellule de sécurité
routière à Dundurn. Suivant une année à la sécurité routière, l’adjudant Blake se
retrouvera en charge de la section des véhicules spécialisé : il travaillera principalement à
la prévention des feux sur les champs de tir.
En 2006, l’adjudant Blake fut promu au rang de Sgt et muté
à la BFC Shilo en tant que
sous-officier en charge des opérations de VTU. Suite à un cours séjour à Shilo, il décida
en Octobre 2008 de prendre sa retraite et d’accepté un contrat de classe B pour une
position de recrutement au CRFAC Sudbury. Son retour dans le nord de l’Ontario lui
donnera l’opportunité d’être réunis avec sa famille et d’être à proximité de chez lui. Avec
les réductions dans le monde du recrutement, la position de l’adjudant Blake à Sudbury
sera abolie ce qui le forcera à soumettre une demande de transfert vers la force régulière
en Juillet 2010. Il sera conséquemment de retour ou son épopée à débuter, au 2ième Bn de
service, Petawawa.
Lors de son retour à Petawawa, l’adjudant Blake sera employé en tant que Sgt de l’entrainement pour la compagnie d’administration. À l’automne 2012, ll sera en charge de l’entrainement des conducteurs qui déploieront dans le cadre de l’Opération Attention afin d’offrir du mentorat a l’armée afghane sur les compétences de conduite. Lorsqu’il reviendra au 2ième Bn de service suite à son déploiement, l’adjudant Blake recevra un message de mutation à la 450e Escadron tactique d’hélicoptère afin d’occuper le poste de superviseur de l’unité de transport en tant qu’unique conducteur de MMS de métier. Lorsque promu à son rang actuel en 2015, l’adjudant Blake sera muté à nouveau au 2ième Bn de service pour une période de 1 an afin d’occuper le poste d’adjudant de peloton alpha. À l’été 2016 il se retrouvera au QG de 2 GBMC en tant que l’adjudant G3 entrainement, ou il sera en charge de s’assurer que tous les unités de la brigade maintiennent leur niveau de préparation opérationnelle quant à leurs besoins en munitions, leur NIAC ainsi que leur cours de carrières. En Juillet 2018, l’adjudant Blake retournera à la 450e Escadre afin de finir ses 3 années de rétention en tant qu’adjudant TGEM.
Suite à sa retraite, l’adjudant Blake planifie de profiter des 10 doigts qu’il lui reste pour l’instant en s’adonnant à son passe-temps, la menuiserie. L’adjudant Blake demeurera dans la région de Pembroke et passera du temps à la maison avec son aimante femme Janice et leur deux labrador de couleur chocolat, Dill & Whiskey.
Il y a trop de personne a remercié, cependant, Kevin aimerait remercier tous ceux qu’il a eu l’honneur de rencontré et travaillé au cours des années. Il apprécie la camaraderie et les amitiés qui se sont construites au travers des années. Il est excité à l’idée de partagé quelque “soda” avec ceux qui passeront par chez lui durant leurs déplacements. Ce fut vraiment un honneur et privilège de servir aux cotés de mes frères d’armes mais principalement aux cotés des de mes comparse conducteur MMS à travers les FAC.
