Sgt GM Leighton, CD2, 00171 MSEOP, (Land)
Sergeant (Sgt) Gail Leighton will retire on 04 December 2021 after completing more than 40 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces. (CAF)
Gail enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on 2 July 1981 as a Mobile Support Equipment Operator (MSEOP).
She was a dedicated member of 35 Sydney Svc Bn until October 2003, when she transferred to 35 Sydney Field Ambulance as the Unit Recruiter.
Gail met the love of her life Gordon, a mechanic with 35 Svc Bn on a driver’s course and started dating a few years later. She often joked “I would wreck them, and he would fix them.”
Upon retirement, Gail plans on continuing with her volunteering, with Girl Guides of Canada and in her Community as well. Gail will be staying in the local Area, and also be relaxing at home enjoying time with her husband Gordon and their Golden Retriever, Otis.
There are too many to name however, Gail would like to thank all those with whom she had the honour to have met and worked with over the years. She cherishes the camaraderie and friendships that have been built over the years. It truly has been an honour and privilege to serve with fellow soldiers and more importantly MSE Op’s across the CAF.
To commemorate her dedication to the Canadian Armed Forces, a farewell ceremony (DWD) will be held at Victoria Park WO and Sgt’s Mess on 1 Dec 2021.
Well wishes and funny career anecdotes are welcome and may be sent to Sgt Nicole Forrest at nicole.forrest@forces.gc.ca
