1) AFTER 23 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE PO1 J. BRIAN HURDIS WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES EFFECTIVE JULY 15TH 2023.
2) PO1 BRIAN HURDIS JOINED THE CF FROM HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA JANUARY 5TH 2020. OFF TO ST JEAN QUEBEC WHERE HE COMPLETED HIS BASIC TRAINING. ONCE COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, PO1 J. BRIAN HURDIS WAS THEN OFF TO BORDEN FOR TRADES TRAINING AS A COOK. WHILE IN BORDEN IT CAME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCHOOL THAT HE HAD HIS RED SEAL AS A COOK. HE THEN RECEIVED HIS FIRST POSTING TO THE WEST COAST C.F.B. ESQUIMALT. AFTER SOME TIME ON BASE, HE WAS THEN POSTED TO HMCS ALGONQUIN 2002- 2003. HE COMPLETED HIS FIRST FORCES DEPLOYMENT IN THE GULF RECEIVING HIS FIRST MEDAL SWASM. PO1 HURDIS ALSO SPENT SOME TIME ON HMCS HURON BEFORE IT WAS DECOMISSIONED. PO1 HURDIS IN NOVEMBER 2003 WAS POSTED BACK HOME TO HALIFAX. UPON ARRIVAL HE BEGAN THE NECESSARY TRAINING SO HE COULD BE READY FOR HIS NEXT DEPLOYMENT, THIS ONE A LITTLE DIFFERENT AS IT WAS ON LAND. HE LEFT AUGUST 2004 FOR THE GOLAN HEIGHTS WHERE HE SPENT 6 MONTHS RECEIVING HIS CANADIAN PEACE KEEPING MEDAL AND UNDOF MEDAL. WHEN HE RETURNED FROM THIS DEPLOYMENT IN MARCH 2005, HE SPENT SOME TIME ON BASE BUT NOT VERY LONG. AGAIN HE HEARD THE CALL OF THE SEA AND WAS THEN POSTED TO HMCS PRESERVER. HE RECEIVED HIS MS’S AND THEN OFF TO ANOTHER SHIP HMCS ST. JOHN’S. WHILE ON THE HMCS ST. JOHN’S HE TOOK PART IN HURRICANE RELIEF OP HORATIO IN PORT AU PRINCE HAITI. BACK TO THE LAND IN 2009 WHERE HE WAS ATTACHED TO THE COOKS SCHOOL IN BORDEN AS INCREMENTAL TRAINING STAFF. 2012 BACK TO THE SEA AGAIN ON BOARD HMCS MONTREAL WHERE HE RECEIVED HIS PO2’S. UPON RECEIPT OF THIS HE WAS POSTED TO HMCS ATHABASKAN. WHILE ON HMCS ATHABASKAN HE WAS LENT TO HMCS IROQUOIS TO TAKE PART IN JOINT WARRIOR EXERCISE OVER SEAS. WHEN COMPLETED THIS TOUR HE RETURNED TO HMCS ATHABASKAN AND SAILED HIS FIRST OF 2 OP CARIBBES IN 2015. FROM HERE ON HE JUST BOUNCED FROM SHIP- TO-SHIP. ONCE HE RECEIVED HIS PO1’S HE RETURNED TO HMCS ST. JOHN’S WHERE HE COMPLETED ANOTHER HUMANITARIAN RELIEF MISSION OF THE COAST OF TURKO CAICOS. UPON RETURN FROM THIS HE COMPLETED ANOTHER 2 DEPLOYMENTS OP REASSURANCE AND OP RENAISSANCE. AFTER SAILING NON-STOP FROM 2012 TO 2019 AMASSING 1288 SEA DAYS AND 8 SERVICE MEDALS. LOOKINNG FORWARD TO RETIRING IN A YEAR AND 6 MONTHS IN HALIFAX, HE WAS SHOCKED TO RECEIVE A POSTING MESSAGE TO HMCS REGINA. UNFORTUJNATELY, HE HAS DECIDED TO RETIRE A LITTLE EARLIER THEN EXPECTED FOR THE SAKE OF HIS FAMILY AND IS TRANSFERRING TO THE PRIMARY AIR RESRVES HERE IN SHEARWATER NOVA SCOTIA.
3) PO1 HURDIS’S MANY CAREER HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE SAILING ON ALL 4 TRIBAL CLASS DESTROYERS, HMCS HURON, ALGONQUIN, ATHABASKAN AND HMCS IROQUOIS. ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT IS BEING ABLE TO DECOMMISION THE SHIP THAT HIS FATHER COMMISSIONED HMCS ATHABASKAN. TAKING PART IN HUMANITARIAN RELIEF DOMESTIC AND ABROAD.
4) BRIAN IS EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR THE MANY EXPERIENCES, FRIENDHSIPS AND MEMORIES WITH SO MANY AMAZING PEOPLE, MILITARY AND CIVILIAN DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN, OVER HIS LAST 23 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS IN UNIFORM. HE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL WHO SUPPORTED HIM THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER ESPECIALLY THE UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT FROM HIS WIFE JESSICA AND HIS CHILDREN, SON AUSTIN 11, AND DAUGHTER ADDISON 9
