MWO Martin Duval
On August 16th 2021, MWO Martin Duval will be retiring from the CAF after 30+ years of service to the crown. It all started in 1986 when he enrolled into the reserves as a 935 trucker. In March of 1987, he transferred from the 51st Svc Bn to the Reg Force and off he went to basic training in St-Jean. He then was off to Borden where he waited for his QL 3 MSE Op to happen. After his course, he was posted to CFB Winnipeg, where he learned all the aspects of the trade starting with GPV, bus section, cargo section, refuelling and SPV.
In the summer of 1993, he was posted to 5 Svc Bn in Valcartier. After the summer exercise in Gagetown, he was off to Croatia in support of Op Mandarin till April 1994. He is then back to Admin Coy and participates in all kinds of events and of course his PLQ in the winter of 1995. In 1996, the occasion to deploy once again comes up and he’s off to Camp Maple Leaf in Bosnia-Herzegovina in support of Op Alliance in Velika Kladusa till January 1997. In the winter if 1998, he participated in the ice storm crisis as an operator.
In May of 1998, Martin leaves the CAF for a life on the road and starts up his own trucking company. For 5 and half years, he’s up and down North America’s roads and in 2003 when fuel prices go sky high, he decides to join the military once again and back to Valcartier he goes to C Plt in August of 2003. In January of of 2004, the call to deploy is upon him and he now trains for a 3rd deployment to the Balkans. Upon his return in October 2004, he is employed at Tn Coy training cell. After his promotion to MCpl in 2007, he is employed at the Ops cell till April 2008 when he starts training for Roto 7 of Op Athena in Afghanistan that takes place from March to October of 2009.
Following this deployment, he is employed at fleet management and he stays there till the summer of 2010 when he gets promoted to Sgt and posted to Tpt in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu as the bus section I/C. In July 2014, he is promoted to WO and becomes the Tpt Plt 2 I/C. In the beginning of August 2015, he is nominated to deploy overseas with Op Reassurance as the Tpt Authority. While on
deployment, he learns that he will be transferred to Wainwright in the summer of 2016. During his time out west, he participated in different exercises like Maple Resolve, the patrol concentrations, and reserve exercises as an OCT. In 2017, he is promoted to his actual rank and stays in Wainwright till the summer of 2019, at which time he is transferred to the Canadian Material Support Group as the supervisor of the National Payload Coordination Centre.
Martin will retire in the Quebec city region, more precisely in Shannon with his spouse Isabelle. They are planning to travel over-seas, snowmobile and motorcycle trips and whatever makes them happy.

Le 16 août 2021, l’Adjum Martin Duval prendra sa libération des Forces armées canadiennes après plus de 30 ans de bons et loyaux services à la Couronne. Tout a commencé en janvier 1986 lorsqu’il s’est enrôlé dans la réserve comme chauffeur 935. En mars 1987, il a transféré du 51e Bns vers la régulière pour se rendre à l’Instruction élémentaire des recrues à Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Il s’est ensuite rendu à Borden pour attendre son cours d’instruction professionnelle du niveau de
qualification 3 comme Opérateur MMS. Après son cours, il a été muté à Winnipeg, endroit où il a appris toutes les facettes du métier, soit les véhicules à usage généraux, la section autobus, la section cargo, la section avitaillement et l’équipement lourd.
À l’été 1993, il a été muté à Valcartier au 5e Bns. Après l’exercice d’été à Gagetown, il est parti pour la Croatie en support de l’Op Mandarin jusqu’en avril 1994. Il retourne travailler à la Cie des Svcs et participe à toutes sortes d’évènements ainsi que son cours de chef à l’hiver 1995. En 1996, l’occasion de se déployer s’annonce à nouveau et c’est reparti pour le camp Maple Leaf à Vélika Kladusa en Bosnie- Herzégovine en support à l’Op Alliance jusqu’en janvier 1997. A l’hiver 1998, il participa à la crise du verglas en tant qu’opérateur.
En mai 1998, Martin quitte les FAC pour une vie de routier et fonde sa propre compagnie de transport. Pendant 5 ans et demi, il sillonne les routes de l’Amérique du Nord et en 2003, quand le prix de l’essence monte en flèche, il décide de reprendre son service militaire et il se voit muté à nouveau à Valcartier au Pon C en aout 2003. En janvier 2004, l’appel du déploiement sonne encore et l’entrainement commence à nouveau pour un 3e déploiement dans le Balkans. Au retour du déploiement en octobre 2004, il sera par la suite employé à l’entrainement de la Cie de Tpt. Après sa promotion au grade de Cplc en 2007, il est employé aux Ops de Cie jusqu’en avril 2008 ou il part pour l’entrainement de l’Op Athéna pour la roto 7 en Afghanistan qui se fera de mars à octobre 2009.
Suite à ce déploiement, il sera employé à la gestion de flotte et il reste la jusqu’à l’été 2010 ou il est promu au grade de Sgt et muté au Tpt à Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu comme responsable de la section autobus. En juillet 2014, il est promu au grade d’adjudant et devient le Cmdt/A du Pon de Tpt Saint-Jean. Au début aout 2015, il est nominé pour un déploiement outre-mer avec l’Op Réassurance en tant qu’autorité de transport. Lors de son déploiement, il apprend qu’à son retour, il sera muté à Wainwright à l’été 2016. Durant son temps dans l’ouest, il participe aux exercices Maple Resolve, les exercices de la
réserve ainsi que les compétitions de patrouille comme observateur-contrôleur. En 2017, il est promu à son grade actuel et il reste à Wainwright jusqu’à l’été 2019, date à laquelle il est muté à Ottawa au Groupe de soutien matériel du Canada en tant que superviseur du Centre National de Coordination des Charges Utiles.
Martin prendra sa retraite dans la région de Québec, plus précisément à Shannon avec sa conjointe Isabelle. Les deux prévoient des voyages outre-mer, en motoneige, en moto et tout ce qui les rendront heureux.

Martin aimerait prendre le temps de remercier toute sa famille, ses amis, les personnes avec qui il a eu le privilège de travailler au fil des ans ainsi que tout les gens qui l’ont supporté dans sa carrière.
