MWO Michael Simms will be retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) on the 4th of April 2018 after more than 29 years of loyal and dedicated service to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, Canada, and to the Logistics Service.
MWO Simms was born in St Johns, NL and joined the Canadian Forces on the 10th of March 1989, completing Basic Training at CFB Cornwallis in May of the same year. He was immediately posted the CFB Borden where he attended his TQ3 Ammo Tech training at CFSEME. Now that the army had managed to get him off the rock (Newfoundland), they feared he may want to return, so they posted him back to the east coast, to CFAD Bedford in Halifax NS, in February 1990. This is where he spent five glorious years and met his lovely wife Debbie. In July 1995, he received another posting back to Ontario, this time to CFSU Ottawa, where he spent seven years during which time he received his promotion to MCpl. In July 2002, the bungee cord was again pulling him east as he received a posting to CFB Gagetown, NB where during his seven-year posting he received his promotion to Sgt and was deployed to Kandahar Afghanistan. In July 2009, he was promoted to WO and posted back to Ottawa ON, this time to J4 Ammo at NDHQ. This posting proved to be the most rewarding of his career, as he had the opportunity to view his work from a command level and from within the Ops section, where he was involved in supporting many missions such as Op CALUMET, Op ATHENA, Op APOLLO, Op HESTIA, Op MOBILE and Op PALACI to name a few. During his time at J4 Ammo, he also physically deployed to Op MOBILE on two occasions. In July 2013, he received his promotion to MWO and managed to avoid the ever present pull back to the east coast by being employed in many locations within the national capital region including DAEME, G4 Army, DAER and returning to his final posting within DAEME as the I/C of NICP.
It is with great pride and a happy heart that he has finally decided to retire after 29 years he has given to the Ammo Tech trade. He would like to thank all those who he was fortunate enough to have served with and is grateful for the friendships that he has made along the way which helped develop him into the person he is today.
MWO Simms is also very thankful that those connections will not be lost as he has accepted a civilian position here in Ottawa within DAEME. He would like to thank his wife Debbie and their two children Stephanie and Mitchell for their constant support over his career. Both Mike and Debbie are looking forward to remaining in the Ottawa area and enjoying the next chapter of their life together.

L’Adjum Michael Simms prendra sa retraite des Forces armées canadiennes (FAC) le 4 avril 2018 après plus de 29 années de loyaux et dévoués services à Sa Majesté, la reine Elizabeth II, au Canada et au Service de la logistique.
L’Adjum Simms est né à St Johns (T.-N.-L.) et s’est enrôlé dans les Forces canadiennes le 10 mars 1989, terminant l’entraînement de base à la BFC Cornwallis en mai de la même année. Il a été immédiatement affecté à la BFC Borden, où il a suivi sa formation sur les munitions NQ3 à l’EGEMFC. Maintenant que l’armée avait réussi à le faire sortir de l’île (Terre-Neuve) et de peur qu’il veule y retourner, ils l’ont donc ramené sur la côte Est au DMFC Bedford, à Halifax, en Nouvelle-Écosse en février 1990. Cet à cet endroit qu’il a passé cinq glorieuses années et a rencontré sa charmante épouse Debbie. En juillet 1995, il a reçu une autre affectation en Ontario, cette fois à l’USFC Ottawa, où il a passé sept années pendant lesquelles il a reçu sa promotion à cplc. En juillet 2002, le cordon élastique l’attirait de nouveau vers l’Est pour une affectation de sept ans à la BFC Gagetown, au Nouveau-Brunswick, où il a été promu au rang de Sgt et a déployé à Kandahar en Afghanistan. En juillet 2009, il a été promu à adjudant et affecté à Ottawa, cette fois-ci à J4 Ammo au QGDN. Ce poste s’est avéré être le plus gratifiant de sa carrière, puisqu’il a eu l’occasion de travailler à un niveau de commandement et dans la section des opérations où il a contribué à de nombreuses missions comme Op CALUMET, Op ATHENA, Op APOLLO, Op HESTIA, Op MOBILE et Op PALACI pour n’en nommer que quelques-unes. Pendant son séjour à J4 Ammo, il s’est également déployé physiquement à Op MOBILE à deux reprises. En juillet 2013, il a été promu au grade d’adjum et a réussi à éviter un retour sur la côte Est en travaillant à de nombreux endroits de la région de la capitale nationale, y compris D Gest TME, G4 Armée, DREM et de retourner à son poste final au sein du D Gest TME comme superviseur du CNCS.
C’est avec une grande fierté et un cœur heureux qu’il a finalement décidé de prendre sa retraite après ses 29 années consacrées au métier de technicien en munitions. Il aimerait remercier tous ceux et celles avec qui il a eu la chance d’avoir servi et est reconnaissant pour les amitiés qu’il a nouées en cours de route et qui ont contribué à le faire devenir la personne qu’il est aujourd’hui.
L’Adjum Simms est aussi très reconnaissant que ces liens ne soient pas perdus puisqu’il a accepté un poste d’employé de la fonction publique ici à Ottawa au sein du D Gest TME. Il aimerait remercier sa femme Debbie et leurs deux enfants Stéphanie et Mitchell pour leur soutien constant au cours de sa carrière. Mike et Debbie ont hâte de rester dans la région d’Ottawa et de profiter du prochain chapitre de leur vie ensemble.
