MWO JAMIE BECK, CD, MM TECH/0168 – 01
AFTER 25+ YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE, MASTER WARRANT OFFICER JAMIE BECK WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CAF ON AUGUST 7, 2022.
JAMIE STARTED HIS CAREER IN ST. JOHN’S, NL WHERE HE FIRST JOINED THE RESERVES AS A SUPPLY TECH WITH 36 (NFLD) SERVICE BATTALION IN NOV OF 1996. DURING HIS TIME IN THE RESERVES HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEPLOY TO THE OTTAWA REGION FOR THE ICE STORM OF 1998, KOSOVO IN 2000 AND GOLAN HEIGHTS IN 2001. IT WAS AFTER THE GOLAN HEIGHTS TOUR IN DEC 2001 THAT HE DECIDED THAT HE COULD PROBABLY MAKE A FULLTIME GIG OUT OF THE MILITARY AND COMPONENT TRANSFERRED TO THE REGULAR FORCE IN AUG 2002. UPON HIS TRANSFER, HE WAS DROPPED FROM THE LOFTY HEIGHTS OF CPL IN THE RESERVES TO PTE IN THE REG FORCE. HIS FIRST POSTING WAS TO GAGETOWN WHERE HE MET HIS WIFE OF ALMOST 18 YEARS (AND COUNTING) JENNY (WO RET’D) AND THEIR 2 KIDS, THOMAS AND ABIGAIL WERE BORN. DURING HIS TIME IN GAGETOWN, HE WORKED AT BASE SUPPLY, PRETTY MUCH EVERY SPSS AND 2 RCR. AS WELL DEPLOYED TO BOSNIA 2001 AND CFS ALERT IN 2003/2004. PROMOTED TO MCPL IN 2008, THEY DECIDED TO TRY OUT THE AIR FORCE LIFE AND WERE POSTED TO COLD LAKE, AB. IT WAS HERE THAT HE WAS PROMOTED TO SGT IN 2011. WHILE IN COLD LAKE, JAMIE WORKED AT WING SUPPLY, WLE HQ AND FINALLY 409 TFS WHERE HE LOGGED A COUPLE OF TRIPS TO ALASKA. IN 2013, HIS WIFE JENNY WANTED TO TAKE AIR FORCE LIFE TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND APPLIED TO BE A FLIGHT ATENDANT SO IN 2013, THEY WERE POSTED TO TRENTON. WHILE JENNY FLEW ALL OVER THE WORLD, JAMIE WORKED AS THE IC OF SUPPLY AT THE 1 CDN DIV HIGH READINESS DETACHMENT (DART WAREHOUSE) WHERE HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE LOGISITCAL SUPPORT TO 3 MAJOR INTERNATIONAL NATURAL DISASTERS. UPON HIS PROMOTION TO WO IN 2016, THE CAF DECIDED THAT THIS WAS ENOUGH AIR FORCE EXPOSURE SO THEY WERE OFF TO PETAWAWA, HOWEVER, JAMIE WAS FIRST POSTED TO 450 THS AS THE RQ. AFTER 1 YEAR AT 450 SQN, JAMIE WAS POSTED UP THE HILL TO 2 SVC BN WHERE HE LOGGED ONE MORE OVERSEAS DEPLOYMENT TO OP IMPACT IN KUWAIT AND WORKED AS THE SUP COY OPS WO UPON HIS RETURN FROM OVERSEAS. IN 2019 AN OPPORTUNITY CAME UP TO EMBARK ON ONE LAST ADVENTURE AS THEY TOOK A POSTING TO YELLOWKNIFE. WHILE IN YELLOWKNIFE, JAMIE WAS EMPLOYED AS THE GQMS FOR 1 CRPG WHERE HE WAS INVOLVED IN PROVIDING LOGISTICAL SUPPORT TO CANADIAN RANGERS ALL OVER THE NORTH. IT WAS HERE THAT JAMIE WAS PROMOTED TO HIS CURRENT RANK OF MWO IN 2020. AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS IN THE GREAT WHITE NORTH, THE OPPORTUNITY PRESENTED ITSELF FOR HE AND HIS FAMILY TO BE POSTED BACK TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN, GAGETOWN, SO IN 2021, THEY WERE BACK HOME WHERE JAMIE IS THE MATERIAL CONTROL SUPERVISOR AT BASE SUPPLY UNTIL HE HANGS UP HIS UNIFORM FOR HE LAST TIME ON 07 AUG 2022.
OVER THE COURSE OF HIS CAREER, JAMIE GOT THE MOST OUT OF HIS CAREER BY LIVING AND WORKING IN MANY DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD. ADDITIONALLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET AND WORK WITH MANY, MANY AMAZING PEOPLE WHO REMAIN FRIENDS TO THIS DAY. JAMIE AND HIS FAMILY ARE STAYING IN NB AS THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING THEIR FOREVER HOME AND STARTING A SMALL HOMESTEAD. FOR THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE AFTER HIS RETIREMNT, JAMIE PLANS TO JUST SPEND HIS TIME CHASING AROUND THE DUCKS AND CHICKENS WITH JENNY.
