MAJOR NELSON JENKINS
MAJOR NELSON JENKINS WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 11 FEBRUARY 2022, AFTER COMPLETING 31+ YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA.
NELSON COMMENCED HIS MILITARY CAREER AS A GUNNER, POSTED TO 2 RCHA. WHILE EMPLOYED AT D BATTERY, 2 RCHA, NELSON DEPLOYED TO CYPRUS (92) AND AS A DRIVER WITH 1 FD AMB PROVIDING HUMANITARIAN RELIEF IN RWANDA (94). AFTER SERVING WITH THE GUNS FOR 5+ YEARS, NELSON WAS SELECTED FOR AN OCCUPATIONAL TRANSFER AND BEGAN HIS SECOND TRADE AS AN ADMINISTRATION CLERK WITH 2 CER, PETAWAWA.
OVER THE NEXT 27 YEARS, NELSON CONTINUED TO PROVIDE DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE LOGISTICS BRANCH AS AN ADMIN CLK, RMS CLK AND LOG O, SERVING IN PETAWAWA (1990-1997) BORDEN (1997-2005), SHILO (2005-2007), WINNIPEG (2008-2010) AND KINGSTON (2010 – PRESENT). AFTER ACCEPTING HIS COMMISSION FROM THE RANKS, NELSON WAS TRANSFERRED TO KINGSTON, WORKING IN VARIOUS LOGISTIC ROLES.
NELSON APPRECIATES ALL THE EXPERIENCES, MEMORIES AND FRIENDSHIPS HE HAS GAINED OVER THE LAST 31 YEARS, ACKNOWLEDGING THE NUMEROUS MENTORS, PEERS AND SUBORDINATES ALONG HIS SUCCESSFUL CAREER. ONE OF THE MANY HIGHLIGHTS OF HIS CAREER WAS HIS EMPLOYMENT AT CFLTC (FORMERLY CFSAL), HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO INSTRUCT NUMEROUS RMS CLERKS WHILE MAKING LIFELONG FRIENDS IN THE RMS COMMUNITY. A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO HIS WIFE TAMMY AND SON MATTHEW FOR SUPPORTING HIS CAREER CHOICES THAT OFTEN TOOK HIM AWAY FROM HOME.
NELSON AND TAMMY WILL REMAIN IN THE KINGSTON AREA. WHEN HE IS NOT WOODWORKING OR RIDING HIS HARLEY, HE INTENDS ON REMAINING ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY BY VOLUNTEERING HIS TIME SUPPORTING THE AT RISK YOUTH/TEENAGERS OF KINGSTON, FRONTENAC, LENNOX ET ADDINGTON..
NELSON INDICATED THAT HE COMMENCED HIS CAREER WITH A WHISPER AND PLANS TO DEPART IN THE SAME MANNER; THEREFORE, HE HAS OPTED TO NOT HAVE A DWD CEREMONY.
