MAJOR DAVID HAMMOND, CD – 00328 LOGISTICS OFFICER (LAND)
DAVE WILL RETIRE ON 4 JULY 2022 AFTER PROUDLY SERVING 25+ YEARS WITH THE CANADIAN ARMY.
DAVE BEGAN HIS CAREER AS AN INFANTRYMAN IN 1997 WITH THE 3RD BATTALION ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT IN PETAWAWA. NOT LONG AFTER ARRIVING TO PETAWAWA, HE DEPLOYED TO ICE STORM 98, AND THEN ON TO SUBSEQUENT TRAINING INCLUDING ONE OF HIS HIGHLIGHTS BEING THE PIONEER COURSE. HE ALSO PARADED IN HOLLAND DURING THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION IN 2000, DEPLOYED TO ALBERTA FOR THE 28TH G8 SUMMIT HELD IN KANANASKIS IN 2002, AND TOOK PART IN A FEW EXERCISES IN THE US WHILE EMPLOYED WITH N COY.
ONE OF DAVE’S GOALS WAS TO BE A PEACEKEEPER, AND HE ACHIEVED THAT BY DOING TWO TOURS OF BOSNIA IN 1998 AND 2001. THE TOURS WERE ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY FOR HIM TO WORK WITH MEMBERS OF THE ARMY RESERVE, OTHER NATO TROOPS, AND TRAVEL PARTS OF EUROPE.
IN 2003, DAVE LEFT PETAWAWA AND COMPLETED HIS TRAINING AS A LINEMAN IN CFB KINGSTON AND WAS POSTED TO CFJSR. WHILE POSTED TO THE ‘JSR’, HE SPENT SIX YEARS TRAVELLING CANADA EXTENSIVELY AS PART OF SMALL CREWS FOR CABLE INSTALLATIONS AND TOWER MAINTENANCE PROJECTS AT ARMY, AIR FORCE, AND NAVAL BASES AS FAR REACHING AS CFS ALERT, CFS MASSET, AND CFS GREAT VILLAGE. AS A LINEMAN, HE DEPLOYED TO AFGHANISTAN AND AFTER HIS RETURN TO CANADA, HE ENGAGED IN CONTINUING EDUCATION AND WAS ACCEPTED FOR UTPNCM IN 2008 AND ATTENDED RMC.
FOLLOWING HIS GRADUATION IN 2011 AS A LOGISTICS OFFICER, DAVE WAS POSTED TO THE LOGISTICS SUPPORT SQUADRON (LSS) IN KINGSTON AS THE BASE TRANSPORTATION OFFICER, AND WENT ON TO FINISH THE REMAINDER OF HIS PHASE TRAINING BY 2013.
DAVE’S NEXT ROLE WAS G4 OPS & PLANS WITH 32 CBG HQ IN 2015. HERE HE PLANNED AND SUPPORTED ARMY RESERVE EXERCISES, DOMOPS, AND ANNUAL SIV/SAVS. HIS TIME IN TORONTO CONTINUED WITH A POSTING TO 4 CDSB TECH SVCS DET TORONTO AS THE 2IC IN 2017. IN 2018 HE FINISHED AOC, AND RETURNED TO PETAWAWA TO SWITCH HATS BECOMING THE OPS O AT 4 CDSB TECH SVCS IN 2019. ONE YEAR LATER, DAVE CROSSED THE STREET TO JOIN THE G4 BRANCH AT 2 CMBG HQ, AND WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR IN THE SUMMER OF 2021. THAT SAME SUMMER, HE RETURNED TO GARRISON PETAWAWA FOR HIS FINAL YEAR IN THE CAF.
AFTER CONSIDERING HIS POST-RETIREMENT OPTIONS, DAVE, HIS WIFE JUNKO, AND THEIR DAUGHTER AYA HAVE DECIDED TO RELOCATE TO WESTERN CANADA AND EXPLORE NEW BEGINNINGS.
