CPO2 Dalling, 00164, Cook
1. On December 12, 2018 after more than 33 years of loyal and dedicated service to the CAF, Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Thomas Dalling will retire from the CAF.
2. CPO2 Dalling joined the CAF in August 1985 as a Cook and after completing basic training at CFRS Cornwallis and TQ3 Cook training in Borden, was posted to 1 CSR (Kingston). In 1993, he was posted to CFB Halifax, and served 2 tours off of the coast of Bosnia on the first on HMCS Iroquois and the second onboard of HMCS Montreal. In 1997, then MS Dalling told his career manager that the last place on earth that he wanted to go was CFB Gagetown so he was immediately posted to 2RCR conveniently located in the center of NB. While with 2RCR MS Dalling served his third and final tour of Bosnia in 1999.
3. In July 1999 MS Dalling was posted to the CFB Esquimalt where he was employed as the IC of Naval Officers Training Center (NOTC) Galley. After a year of running the NOTC Galley, MS Dalling became the Admirals Cook and was moved to the Wardroom as the 2IC. In 2005 MS Dalling realizing that he was in the hotbed of bilingualism and volunteered for the yearlong French course in Victoria BC.
4. In June 2006, then CPO2 Dalling was posted to CFB St. Jean where he spent a year working on his French language and poutine eating skills. But the sea was calling him back and after only a year in Quebec he was posted back to Victoria onboard of HMCS Protecteur as the Galley Supervisor.
5. During the next several years CPO2 Dalling was posted from Esquimalt to Borden and back again and then again off to Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC in Ottawa). In November 2015, CPO2 Dalling finally landed in the Director Personnel Generation Requirements (DPGR) where he was part of a team doing an occupational analysis of the Cooks trade.
6. During his long career, CPO2 Dalling has worked with some of the military’s best people and has had the opportunity to travel to many countries both for work and pleasure. He has accepted a position as a Policy analyst, remaining in DPGR here in Ottawa.

1. Le 12 décembre 2018, après 33 ans de loyaux services et de dévouement à l’égard des FAC, le premier maître de 2e classe Thomas Dalling prend sa retraite.
2. Le pm 2 Dalling se joint aux FAC en août 1985 à titre de Cuisinier et, après avoir suivi son instruction élémentaire à l’École des recrues des Forces canadiennes (ERFC) Cornwallis et celle de Cuisinier NQ3 à Borden, il est affecté comme Représentant du service à la clientèle (RSC) 1 Kingston. En 1993, il est affecté à la BFC Halifax, puis connaît deux affectations sur la côte de Bosnie, la première à bord du NCSM Iroquois et la seconde, à bord du NCSM Montréal. En 1997, alors devenu matc, il dit à son gestionnaire de carrière que le dernier endroit sur terre où il souhaitait aller était la BFC Gagetown; il est alors affecté sur-le-champ au 2e Bataillon, The Royal Canadian Regiment, heureusement situé pour lui au centre du Nouveau-Brunswick. Au cours de cette affectation, le matc Dalling connaît son troisième et dernier séjour en Bosnie, soit en 1999.
3. En juillet 1999, le matc Dalling est affecté à la BFC Esquimalt, où il devient Chef de l’office du Centre d’instruction des officiers de marine. Après une année à ce poste, il devient Cuisinier de l’amiral pour devenir ensuite Chef adjoint au Carré des officiers. En 2005, il se rend compte qu’il est en situation inconfortable du point de vue du bilinguisme et se porte volontaire pour suivre un cours de français d’une année à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique.
4. En juin 2006, devenu m 2, il est affecté à BFC Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, où il passe un an à améliorer son français et à déguster de la poutine. Or la mer le réclame et, après une année au Québec, il est réaffecté à Victoria à bord du NCSM Protecteur comme Superviseur d’office.
5. Au cours des années suivantes, le pm 2 Dalling passe d’Esquimalt à Borden, puis revient à cette première destination, avant de passer au Commandement des opérations interarmées du Canada, à Ottawa. En novembre 2015, il aboutit chez le Directeur des besoins en production du personnel, où il se joint à une équipe analysant GPM Cuisinier.
6. Au cours de sa longue carrière, le pm 1 Dalling a l’occasion de travailler auprès de certains des meilleurs éléments militaires et de voyager dans de nombreux pays, tant pour son travail que pour son plaisir. Il accepte un poste d’Analyste des politiques, toujours auprès du DBPP à Ottawa.
