Colonel Robert Leblanc enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces September 1986.
He was posted to CFB Calgary where he filled various position within the comptroller section until June 1990. From July 1990 until 1994, he was posted to Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance and Corporate Services), ADM (Fin CS), as a staff officer in pay services. While there, he deployed to Croatia (1993) under the United Nations as the Deputy Comptroller of the Canadian contingent. Following that, he was posted to Land Forces Quebec Area (LFQA) Headquarters as the area Financial Management officer. Promoted to the rank of Major in 1999, he filled various staff officer positions within Land Force Command and ADM (Fin CS), where he provided financial support to deployed operations. In 2006, he returned to LFQA where he executed the role as Area Comptroller. The end of that tour brought with it his promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel, where he was then posted to the Army as the Deputy Comptroller. In 2011, he was appointed as Personnel Support Services Officer of the 5 Area Support Group. He was then posted to the National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa as the Director of Budgets under ADM (Fin CS). His final four-year career tour following that, was to Chief Military Personnel as the Command Comptroller.

Il est affecté à la BFC Calgary, où il occupe divers postes d’officiers subalternes au sein de la branche du contrôleur jusqu’en juin 1990. Muté au SMA (Fin SM) en juillet 1990, il sert comme Officier d’état-major au sein des services de la solde jusqu’en 1994. Avant de terminer son séjour à Ottawa, il se déploie en Croatie en 1993 sous l’égide des Nations Unies où il remplit les fonctions de Contrôleur adjoint du contingent canadien. Il est ensuite muté au QG du SQFT où il est employé principalement comme Officier de gestion financière du Secteur. Promu au grade de major en 1999, il cumule diverses fonctions d’état-major au sein du Contrôleur du Commandement de la Force terrestre et au SMA (Fin SM) où il fournira le support financier aux opérations déployées. En 2006, il revient au QG du SQFT et assume les fonctions de Contrôleur du Secteur. Promu au grade de lieutenant-colonel en 2009, il retourne au Contrôleur du Commandement de la Force terrestre afin d’occuper le poste de Contrôleur adjoint. Il assume en juillet 2011 les fonctions de Commandant du Service soutien au personnel an sein du 5e Groupe de soutien de secteur. Il est affecté au QGDN à Ottawa au groupe du Sous-ministre adjoint Finances et services pour assumer les fonctions d’adjoint au Directeur budget. Il est finalement muté au CMP ou il occupera la position de contrôleur du commandement durant les 4 dernières années de sa carrière.
