2. CAPT FARTHING ENROLLED IN THE YTEP PROGRAM ON 16 DEC 86. TRANSFERRING TO THE REG FORCE AS AN ADMIN CLK ON 2 JAN 88, HE WAS AMALGAMATED TO THE RMS TRADE 1 JAN 98, AND AWARDED HIS COMMISSION AS A LOG OFFICER (LAND) ON 1 SEP 09 SPECIALIZING IN FINANCE.
3. AS AN NCM, STEVE’S DISTINGUISHED CAREER WAS GENERALLY SERVED IN KINGSTON AT VARIOUS UNITS SUCH AS HMCS CATARAQUI, CFB KINGSTON, 1 CDN DIV HQ AND SIGNALS REGT, CANADIAN LAND FORCE COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE, AND 2 (EW) SQN. HE DEPLOYED WITH THE SIGNALS REGT DURING THE WINNIPEG “FLOOD OF THE CENTURY” IN 1997 AND “THE NORTH AMERICAN ICE STORM” OF 1998. HE ALSO SERVED WITH THE BRITISH COLUMBIA REGT IN VANCOUVER AND SPENT A YEAR IN OTTAWA AT THE CANADIAN FORCES LANGUAGE SCHOOL (CFLS) EARNING HIS FRENCH LANGUAGE PROFILE. IN 2004, STEVE RETURNED TO CFLS BUT THIS TIME FOR A YEAR OF INTENSIVE TRAINING IN THE THAI LANGUAGE AND CUSTOMS IN PREPARATION FOR A PROMINENT AND REWARDING THREE YEAR TOUR AT THE CANADIAN EMBASSY IN THAILAND AS THE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE CANADIAN DEFENCE ATTACHE. AT THIS POST, HE WAS A LIAISON WITH HIS HOST COUNTRY AND COMMONWEALTH COUNTERPARTS FOR NUMEROUS VIP VISITORS SUCH AS HMCS SHIPS, AIRCRAFT, AND OTHER DIGNITARIES, INCLUDING THE PRIME MINISTER VISIT TO HANOI VIETNAM DURING APEC. STEVE SERVED AN INTEGRAL ROLE IN CDN GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO THAILAND.
4. A YEAR AFTER RETURNING FROM THAILAND, STEVE ACCEPTED HIS COMMISSION FROM SGT TO LT ON 1 SEP 09 AND CONTINUED TO BUILD ON HIS EXEMPLARY REPUTATION IN THE LOG PROFESSION. HE SERVED WITH 21(EW) REGT AND DEPLOYED FOR 254 DAYS TO THE NCSE IN KABUL AS THE S4 FIN O AND PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, IN 2013, STEVE WAS POSTED TO LAND FORCE CENTRAL AREA (LFCA) HQ IN TORONTO (4 CDN DIV HQ) AS THE G1 GRIEVANCE OFFICER AND HQ ADJT. FINALLY IN 2016, STEVE WAS POSTED TO CADTC HQ KINGSTON AS THE BUSINESS PLANNING OFFICER.
5. STEVE AND HIS FAMILY HAVE ENJOYED THE MILITARY LIFE, NOTABLY THREE YEARS IN BANGKOK (DURING A PEACEFUL MILITARY COUP) AND THE PEOPLE THEY HAVE MET IN THE DIFFERENT POSTINGS. HE THANKS HIS SPOUSE, LEANNE, AND HIS TWO SONS, MATTHEW AND WILLIAM, FOR THEIR ABSOLUTE AND UNWAVERING SUPPORT – FOR WITHOUT THEM HE COULD NOT HAVE FULFILLED SUCH A SUCCESSFUL CAREER.
