Capt André Brideau was born in Montreal and enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1983 as a mobile support equipment operator (MSE Op). After receiving his basic and trade training, he was transferred to Petawawa, where he worked with 2 Service Battalion and the Airborne Regiment. During that time, he was part of CANCONCYP Roto 46 in Cyprus.
In 1987, he was transferred to Baden-Soellingen so that he could explore the aerial side of his trade. In 1990, during the Gulf War, he served with the coalition forces in Qatar. He returned from the mission and left Germany in May 1991, taking with him many fond memories of his stay there. He was transferred to the Quebec City area to work with 5 Field Ambulance. In 1993, he was promoted to the rank of MCpl and participated in CCUNPROFOR Roto 1 in Visoko, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
After the reorganization of the 5 Field Ambulance establishment, he was transferred in 1994 to 5 Service Battalion (5 Svc Bn) and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1995. In 1999, he participated in OP PALLADIUM Roto 4 with the National Support Element (NSE) in Velika Kladuša, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
He was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer in December 1999 and was appointed as the next career manager in his trade for corporals and privates in Ottawa. He held that position until November 2003. He was then promoted to the rank of Master Warrant Officer and transferred to 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (5 CMBG) as G4 Transport 2. In May 2005, he occupied the role of Sergeant Major of the Transport and Movement Company of 5 General Support Battalion (5 GS Bn), which, with the merging of 5 GS Bn and 5 Svc Bn, became the Transport Coy. He was promoted to the rank of CWO in April 2006 and was appointed to the Regimental Sergeant Major of 5 Svc Bn. In April 2008, he was named Sergeant Major of the National Support Element (NSE) of Op Athena Roto 7 in Afghanistan.
Upon his return he was named the Sergeant Major of 5 Area Support Group (5 ASG) from November 2019 until June 2012. From there he was nominated to the 1st Canadian Division Sergeant-Major in Kingston until June 2015. After 7 years of either being on deployment or on Impose Restriction (IR) away from his family, he requested to be considered for the SRCP program in the Valcartier region. When the offer of being the Valcartier IPSC platoon commander (JPSU) raised up, he accepted with great enthusiasm.
After 35 years 2 months and 21 days of service, it’s time to make some room for the young ones. After a bountiful career he his luckily still married to the wonderful Louise Marcil also known as “Loulou la douce” and proud parents of two beautiful kids, Frédéric (23) and Valérie (21).
Capitaine (connu principalement comme Adjudant-chef) André Brideau, MMM, CD
Natif de Montréal, l’Adjudant-chef Brideau s’est enrôlé dans les Forces armées canadiennes en 1983 en tant qu’opérateur Matériel Mobile de Soutien (OP MMS). Suite à son entraînement de base et de métier, il a été muté à Petawawa, avec le 2e Bataillon des Services et le Régiment
Aéroporté, durant cette période, il a fait partie de la roto 46 du CANCONCYP à Chypre.
En 1987, il sera muté à Baden-Soellingen afin qu’il puisse explorer le côté aérien du métier. En 1990, lors de la guerre du Golfe, il a servi avec les forces de la coalition au Qatar. De retour de mission, c’est avec nostalgie qu’il quitte l’Allemagne en mai 1991 pour se retrouver dans la région de Québec où il a été muté à la 5e Ambulance de Campagne. En 1993, promu au grade de caporal-chef, il participe à la roto 1 du CCUNPROFOR à Visoko, Bosnie-Herzégovine.
Suite à un remaniement de l’établissement de la 5e Ambulance de Campagne, il sera transféré en 1994 au 5e Bataillon des Services du Canada (5 Bn S du C) et promu au grade de sergent en 1995. En 1999, il participe à la roto 4 d’OP PALLADIUM avec l’Élément de Soutien National (ESN) à Vélika-Kladusa, Bosnie.
Promu au grade d’adjudant en décembre 1999, il est nommé pour être le prochain gérant de carrière de son métier pour les caporaux et soldats à Ottawa, poste qu’il occupe jusqu’en novembre 2003. Promu au grade d’adjudant-maître, il est muté au 5e Groupe- brigade mécanisé du Canada (5 GBMC) dans le poste de G4 transport 2. En mai 2005, il occupe les fonctions de sergent-major de la compagnie de Transport et Mouvement au 5e Bataillon de soutien général (5 Bon SG) qui, avec la fusion du 5 Bon SG et du 5 Bn S du C, devient par la suite la Cie de Transport. Promu au grade d’adjudant-chef en avril 2006, il fut nominé en tant que Sergent-major régimentaire du 5 Bn S du C. En avril 2008, il est nommé Sergent-major de l’Élément de Soutien National (ESN) de la roto 7 de l’Op Athéna en Afghanistan. Il a occupé le poste de Sergent-major du 5e Groupe du Soutien de Secteur (5 GSS) de novembre 2009 à juin 2012. Par la suite et ce jusqu’au 29 juin 2015 à a occupé le poste de Sergent Major Divisionnaire de la 1re Division Canadienne à Kinston. Considérant que 7 années consécutives loin de la famille, soit en déploiement et en restriction imposée, il a demandé d’être considéré pour le programme de SRCP et c’est avec un immense plaisir qu’il accepta le poste de Cmdt de peloton du CISP de Valcartier (UISP).
Après 35 ans, 2 mois et 21 jours de service, c’est maintenant le temps de laisser sa place aux plus jeunes. Le Capitaine Brideau, suite à une carrière bien remplie est chanceux d’être toujours marié à la merveilleuse Louise Marcil aussi connue sous le nom de « Loulou la douce! » et ils sont parents de deux charmants enfants, Frédéric et Valérie.
