Veteran’s Ombudsman’s Report
Financial Compensation for Canadian Veterans
A comparative analysis of benefit regimes
The Office of the Veterans Ombudsman is pleased to publish the Financial Compensation for Canadian Veterans: A Comparative Analysis of Benefit Regimes report.
Over the past 12 months, the Office of the Veterans Ombudsman has monitored the implementation of Pension for Life in an effort to better understand its impact on Veterans. The results of that work – including a number of recommendations to Government – and a supporting analysis of benefit regimes are contained in this report.
This report also highlights key changes made to financial benefit regimes for disabled Canadian Veterans over the past 14 years. What is remarkable to me is the fact that despite these considerable changes to legislation and Veteran programming we still do not have a clear vision for Veterans in Canada, nor have we identified clear Veteran outcomes (financial, social, health, employment, etc.). When I consider this fact I am reminded of the following Yogi Berra quote: “If you don’t know where you are going you’ll end up someplace else.”
