Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Guy Martin
After 33 plus years of loyal and dedicated service, Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Guy Martin will be retiring from the CAF on 8 July 2022.
MWO Martin is originally from Quebec City and enlisted in the CAF as a reservist Vehicle technician in February 1989 with 55 Svc Bn (35 Svc Bn). On 26 July 1989 he transferred to the Reg Force, as an infantryman, with the Royal 22e Regiment. After basic training and the Battle School completed, he was posted to CFB Valcartier with the 3rd Battalion Royal 22e Regiment. He served with the 3rd & 1st Battalion R22eR from October 1989 to Aug 1995. During this period, he made several missions as; Oka Crisis (1990), Cyprus (1992) and in the former Yugoslavia with the United Nations (1993-1994) and major exercises in Valcartier and Gagetown.
In August 1995, following a change of voluntary trade, he joined 1 Svc Bn Calgary as a MSE-Op. Upon his arrival at the unit, he was employed with General Purpose Vehicle section (GPV) and A Pl. In July 1996, he was transferred to the Edmonton Garrison following the closure of the CFB Calgary. On May 1997, he deployed in Winnipeg for the flood of the century and from Jul 97 to Jan 98, he was deployed again in former Yugoslavia with NATO. From 2000 to 2002, he was transferred to 1 GS BN and used in turn to the bus section, tractor trailer and heavy equipment. In 2001, he was deployed for a period of 6 months at CFS Alert. From July 2002 to July 2004, he was posted to 5 GS Bn where he held the Tractor trailer operator functions, heavy equipment and dispatcher with transportation and supply coy. In July 2004, he was promoted to Master Corporal and was posted to 3 Wing Bagotville, where he served as a dispatcher, Chief dispatcher, IC GVP section, crew chief with the SPV section and assistant fleet manager. Promoted to sergeant in June 2008, he was posted to 5 Svc Bn. From 2008 to 2012 he held various positions: assistant MSE Controller for LFQA, Section Commander, Admin Sgt, Pl Ops Sgt, Pl 2 I/C. In addition, from October 2010 to July 2011, he completed a fifth foreign mission by performing Roto 10 in Afghanistan. Promoted to Warrant Officer in June 2012, he was posted to CFB Borden as the fleet manager. In May 2013, he was transferred again to the Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre (CFLTC) Borden. In June 2015, he was promoted to his current rank and transferred to G4-Tn-2, 2nd CMBG HQ in Petawawa. In July 2016, he was posted to 2 Svc as Transportation Controller and in December 2016, he was appointed Company Sergeant Major (interim) of the Transportation Company. In July 2017, he was transferred again to the Canadian Forces Support Unit Ottawa (CFSU (O)) as Transportation Controller. In July 2020, MWO Martin was posted for the last time with 5 Svc Bn as the Drill Sergeant Major.
There are too many people to thank, however, Guy would like to thank everyone he had the honour to meet and work with over the years. He appreciates the camaraderie and friendships that have been built over the years. Following his retirement, he will remain in Thetford Mines and he plans to tour Canada and the United States on his motorcycle. In addition, he will spend more time with his grandson Louka. A very informal DWD will be held on 27 May 2022 at the WOs & Sgts Mess in Valcartier if the sanitary conditions allow. Après + de 33 années de bons et loyaux service, l’Adjudant maître (Adjum) Guy Martin prendra sa retraite des FAC le 8 juillet 2022.
L’Adjum Martin est originaire de Québec et il s’est enrôlé dans les FAC comme réserviste Technicien de véhicule en février 1989 avec le 55 Bns du C (35 Bon Svc). Le 26 juillet 1989, il a transféré en tant que fantassin avec le R22eR. Une fois sa formation de base et de métier complétée, il a été muté à la BFC Valcartier avec le 3e Bataillon du R22eR. Il a servi auprès du 3e & 1e Bataillon du R22eR d’octobre 1989 à août 1995. Durant cette période, il a effectué plusieurs missions dont; Crise amérindienne (1990), Chypre (1992) et en Ex-Yougoslavie avec les Nations-Unis (1993-1994), ainsi que des exercices majeurs à Valcartier et Gagetown
En août 1995, suite à un changement de métier volontaire, il a joint le 1 Bon Svc à Calgary en tant que Cond-MMS. Dès son arrivée à l’unité, il a été employé comme opérateur à la section des véhicules tout usage (VTU) et au Pon A. En juillet 1996, il a été transféré à la Garnison d’Edmonton suite à la fermeture de la BFC Calgary. En mai 1997, il est déployé à Winnipeg pour les inondations du siècle et de juil-97 à janv 98, il a été déployé de nouveau en Ex-Yougoslavie avec l’OTAN. De 2000 à 2002, il a été muté avec le 1 Bon SG et employé à tour de rôle à la section autobus, camion-remorque et équipement lourd. En 2001, il a été déployé pour une période de 6 mois à la SFC Alert. De juillet 2002 à juillet 2004, il a été muté au 5 Bon SG où il assume les fonctions d’opérateur camion remorque, équipement lourd et répartiteur au transport et à la cie d’approvisionnement. En juillet 2004, il est promu au grade de caporal-chef et muté à la 3e Escadre de Bagotville, où il a assumé les fonctions de chef répartiteur, responsable de la section VTU, contremaître à la section GVS et de gestionnaire de la flotte. Promu au grade de sergent en juin 2008, il est alors muté au 5 Bon Svc. Il occupe plusieurs postes dont: assistant du Contrôleur MMS pour la gestion de la flotte du SQFT, cmdt de son, sgt admin, sgt des opérations de pon, cmdt-adj de pon. De plus, d’octobre 2010 à juillet 2011, il a complété sa cinquième mission à l’étranger en effectuant la roto 10 en Afghanistan. Promu au grade d’adjudant en juin 2012, il est muté à la BFC Borden comme gestionnaire de la flotte des véhicules. En mai 2013, il fut de nouveau muté au Centre d’Instruction de Logistique des Forces canadiennes (CILFC) à Borden. En juin 2015, il est promu à son grade actuel et est muté G4-Tn-2 au QG de la 2e GBMC à Petawawa. En juillet 2016, il est muté au 2 Bon Svc en tant que Contrôleur du transport et en décembre 2016, il devient Sergent Major de Compagnie (intérimaire) pour la cie de transport. En juillet 2017, il est muté à l’Unité de Soutien des Forces Canadiennes Ottawa (USFC(O)) comme Contrôleur du Transport. En juillet 2020, il revient au 5 Bon Svc en tant que Sergent-major à l’instruction. Ceci va être sa dernière mutation.
Il y a trop de personnes à remercier, cependant, Guy aimerait remercier tous ceux qu’il a eu l’honneur de rencontrer et travailler au cours des années. Il apprécie la camaraderie et les amitiés qui se sont construites au travers ces années. Suite à sa retraite, il demeurera à Thetford Mines et il planifie de faire le tour de Canada et des États-Unis en moto. De plus il va passer plus de temps avec son petit-fils Louka. Un DDD très informel va avoir lieu le 27 mai 2022 au Mess des Adjs et Sgts à Valcartier si les conditions sanitaires le permettent.
