Captain Sébastien Sauvé, CD
Captain (Capt) Sébastien Sauvé will retire on 5 February 2020 after almost 24 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
Capt Sauvé joined the CAF Reserve Force as a Vehicle Technician (Veh Tech) in May of 1996. Upon completion of basic training in Valcartier, Quebec and trade training in Borden, Ontario, he worked as a Veh Tech, part and full time, at the 51st Service Battalion in St-Hubert, Quebec until he transferred to the Regular Force (Reg F) in 2002.
After completing a 7 months Reg F Veh Tech Conversion Training in Borden, Ontario, his first Reg F posting was at BFC Bagotville, Québec. During his time in Bagotville from 2002 to 2009, he was deployed on OP ATHENA Roto 1 in 2004 and completed a Bachelor Degree, on the UTPNCM, in Business and Administration, specialized in Human Resources (HR), from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi.
He received his Commissioned as a Logistics Officer in December 2008 and his first posting as an officer was at the 5th Service Battalion in Valcartier, Quebec. He completed his DP1 officer training in June 2010, including a specialty training as Transport Officer, and another one as Movement Officer later in the fall of the same year. During his time in Valcartier, he occupied multiple different functions at the 5th Service Battalion such as Base Transport Officer and Civilian HR Officer, and Officer in Charge (OIC) of Transport Training at the Land Forces Quebec Area Training Centre (LFQA TC). In 2012, he was posted to the Canadian Forces Training Development Centre (CFTDC) where he occupied the function of Adjutant for 2 years. It is in 2014 that he was transferred to the Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre, his last posting, where he occupied many positions such as Course Director and Instructor for Officer Training, Officer in Charge of Non-Commission Member’s Transport Training, and, during his last 2 years, Plans Officer.
Capt Sauvé will be retiring in Milton ON where he will be completing his Masters of Emergency and Disasters Management (EDM) at the American Military University, working as a consultant, exercise planner and instructor in EDM, dancing Salsa with his wife Olga, riding his future motorcycle, travelling, and enjoying a most deserved reunion with his guitar.
A depart with dignity ceremony will be held on the 3 of February 2020 at 1500 hrs at the CFB Borden Officers’ Mess, 32 Caen Cir, Borden, Ontario. Dress will be casual. Le Capitaine (Capt) Sébastien Sauvé prendra sa retraite le 5 février 2020 après près de 24 ans de services loyaux et dévoués aux Forces armées canadiennes (FAC).
Le Capt Sauvé s’est joint à la Force de réserve des FAC à titre de technicien de véhicules (tech véh) en mai 1996. Après avoir suivi sa formation de recrue à Valcartier, au Québec, et sa formation professionnelle à Borden, en Ontario, il a travaillé comme tech véh, à temps partiel et à temps plein, au 51e Bataillon des services à St-Hubert, Québec, jusqu’à son transfert à la Force régulière (F rég) en 2002.
Après avoir complété une formation de conversion à la F rég de tech véh durant 7 mois à Borden, en Ontario, sa première mutation au sein de la F rég a été à la BFC Bagotville, au Québec. Durant son séjour à Bagotville de 2002 à 2009, il a été déployé sur OP ATHENA Roto 1 en 2004 et a complété un
Baccalauréat, sur le PFUMR, en Affaires et Administration, spécialisé en Ressources Humaines (RH), de l’Université du Québec à Chicoutimi.
Il a reçu son brevet d’officier de logistique en décembre 2008 et sa première mutation en tant qu’officier fût au 5e Bataillon des services à Valcartier, au Québec. Il a complété sa formation d’officier PD1 en juin 2010, y compris une spécialisation en tant qu’officier des transports et une autre en tant qu’officier des mouvements plus tard à l’automne de la même année. Pendant son séjour à Valcartier, il a occupé plusieurs fonctions différentes au sein du 5e Bataillon des services, notamment officier des transports de la base et officier des ressources humaines civiles, et officier responsable de la formation en transport au Centre d’instruction du Secteur du Québec de la Force terrestre (CI SQFT). En 2012, il a été muté au Centre de développement de l’instruction des Forces canadiennes (CDIFC) où il a occupé la fonction de capitaine-adjudant pendant 2 ans. C’est en 2014 qu’il a été muté au Centre d’instruction de la logistique des Forces canadiennes, sa dernière mutation, où il a occupé de nombreux postes tels que directeur de cours et instructeur pour la formation d’officier, officier responsable de la formation en transport des militaires du rang et, lors de ses 2 dernières années, officier des plans.
Le Capt Sauvé prendra sa retraite à Milton en Ontario où il terminera sa maîtrise en gestion des urgences et catastrophes (GUC) à l’American Military University, tout en travaillant comme consultant, planificateur d’exercices et instructeur en GUC, dansant la Salsa avec sa femme Olga, chevauchant sa future moto, voyageant et profitant de retrouvailles les plus méritées avec sa guitare.
Une cérémonie de départ dans la dignité aura lieu le 3 février 2020 à 15 h 00 au mess des officiers de la BFC Borden, 32 Caen Cir, Borden (Ontario). La tenue sera décontractée.
