STOUT, Bruce John, Maj (Ret’d), CD, Plog, RCOC, RCLS
Major (retired) Bruce John Stout CD PLog, 76, of Nelson BC, passed away peacefully at home on August 29th, 2024. Bruce was born in Nelson BC.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marie YVONNE (nee Bailey); his son RYAN David (Dorothy) Stout of Pembroke ON and step-grandson Rodney; his daughter ERIN Leigh Stout (partner Chris) of Orleans ON and granddaughters Bailey and Torrence (Tori) and partners children Jade, Sage, and Bella.
After graduation Bruce joined the Canadian Forces in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps (RCOC) later the Logistics Branch. Bruce would serve from 1967 to 2002 (35 years) to the Canadian Forces and later served with the United Nations from 2002 to 2014 as a civilian with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For his service to the Canadian Forces, he was awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, UN Force in Cyprus (1980), UN Emergency Force Middle East (1975), UN Disengagement Observation Force (1991-1993), UN Mission in Bosnia – Herzegovina (1995) and the Canadian Forces’ Decoration with 2 Clasps (over 32 years of service). Each of these represents Bruce’s dedication and commitment to his country.
During his lifetime, Bruce developed countless hobbies, most recently his ambition of building a flight simulator for a helicopter in the basement. Bruce for years wrote a poetic family recap each and every Christmas, enjoyed in a sense of humor known to family and friends. With every honey-do-list, was the to-be-continued statement… most of the projects have completed.
Respecting Bruce’s wishes there will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place with immediate family. Any donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to charitable organization of their own choosing.
