REDDICK-LEAVITT, Barbara Ann, MCpl, (Ret’d), CD, Sup Tech, RCLS

Reddick-LeavittBarbara Ann, age 62, passed away 15 May 2023 at Glace Bay, NS.  She was the baby of James and Josephine Reddick’s large family of twenty-two. Barb is survived by her husband Flint Carmen Leavitt of 7 years

She followed her dad’s and sibling’s footsteps and joined the military and made it a career of 23 years until a medical discharge. Barbara served two tours as a peacekeeper and truly enjoyed servicing her country. She received many accolades from the military such as the CD1, Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, Humanitarian Award, and the Peacekeeper’s Medal for her service in the Golan Heights.

Barb loved people and her community, but most of all children. She had no children of her own, but she was like a second mom to many in both Guysborough and Glace Bay. She was like a kid when it came to holidays making treats for the children to give away, Halloween she would give huge treat bags with fireworks and if the children could not make it to her door she would deliver. No child would be left out. She adored her two godchildren, Maryam, and Joseph, and even when they became adults, she still treated them like her children.

Barb loved bingo whether it be in-person or on-line, she also enjoyed buying her lotto tickets. Let’s not forget her fur babies: Barney, Precious and Angel. Barb established the Hampers of Hope which assisted veterans in the Guysborough area and was very successful, and later expanded to needy families in the Guysborough and Glace Bay areas. She was a member of the Upper Big Tracadie Seniors Action Club and the Tracadie United Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 81 Guysborough. She was an avid supporter of the Men’s Brotherhood and student fundraisers all over. Barb received the Unsung Hero’s Award in 2021 for her dedication and commitment for volunteer work in her African Nova Scotia community of Sunnyville and the. Achievement Award 2019 from the Tracadie United Baptist Church Ladies for community spirit and volunteer work.

Barbara Ann’s funeral service was held on Monday, May 22, 2023.
