MACGREGOR-GREER, Derek, LCdr (Ret’d), CD, Sea Log, RCLS

Macgregor-GreerDerek, age 79, died at home on January 17, 2022.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Daphne, dear daughters Jennifer (Ray Wong) and Sarah (Tim Johnston), and beloved grandchildren Abigail and Sullivan

Born in Beckenham, Kent, Derek emigrated to Canada with his parents in 1952 and grew up in Ottawa.  He served for 26 years in the Royal Canadian Navy including tours as Supply Officer of HMCS Columbia and HMCS Athabaskan.

After retirement, Derek commenced a 15-year career in financial and program management with the BC government.

In addition to his working career, Derek did extensive volunteer work, primarily for St Mary the Virgin Anglican Church (Oak Bay) and the Naval Association of Canada, including the position of National Treasurer.  His volunteer work was recognized by the award of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Community Service Award by the CGA Association of BC.

In lieu of flowers and cards, please do a kind act for another person in memory of Derek.  A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s (Oak Bay) Anglican Church at a suitable date when the public health situation allows.
