JACKMAN, Richard Tobias (Dick), Capt (Ret’d)., CD, RCAF-LOG, RCLS

JackmanIt is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Tobias Jackman, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the age of 75 years. Dick will be forever remembered by his wife, Barb Jackman; daughters, Valerie (Rene) Jackman of Edmonton and Lindsay (Jason) Pincock of St. Albert; and grandchildren, Dylan, Kieran, Logan, Stephanie, James, Adam and Elizabeth.

Dick was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland where he spent his childhood until the age of 18 when he left the Rock. Pursuing a lifelong adventure, he joined the Air Force RCAF/CF. Dick served actively from 1967 – 1997 across Canada. It was while stationed in Gimli, Manitoba he met the love of his life and future bride, Barb. They quickly married and began a new journey together, raising their daughters and moving every few years from one coast to the other.

Finally landing in Edmonton after he left active service, he joined the CFPSA/CFMWS as the first Western Regional Accounting Manager and served a variety of roles until his retirement in 2010. He embraced retirement with Barb as snowbirds and lived every free moment out on his beloved golf courses in Edmonton and Phoenix. Dick lived a life full of joy and had a wit unmatched. A life made rich with family, friends, golf, curling, music and a wee dab of rum to fill his favorite days. Dick always had a story at the ready and took every opportunity to share one with friends old and new. Dick fiercely loved his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. Despite the skinniest legs in the Air Force, he was a giant of a man, a builder of community, and the glue that kept those around him together. The world will dearly miss Dick. His legacy will live on though in his family and friends, sharing his life stories, and always pouring one last rum to carry the chorus line of his favorite songs. A life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Dick’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Canadian Celiac Association or a charity of your choice.
