HENRY, Raymond Joseph (Joe) Gerard, Cpl (Ret’d), CD, MSE Op, RCLS
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and friend. Raymond Joseph (Joe) Gerard Henry, on January 5, 2025, at the age of 66. Born in New Waterford, he was the cherished son of Rose (MacKenzie) and the late Raymond Henry. A gentle giant, Joe’s presence was a comfort and joy to those around him, touching lives with warmth and kindness.
Joe was the kind of guy that when he walked in a room you could feel his presence before even seeing him. His early years in New Waterford laid the foundation for a life marked by service and devotion. Throughout his life, Joe was a pillar of support for his family, friends, and community. Having joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1976, initially serving with the Militia before joining the ‘Reg Force’, his 27 years of dedicated service spoke volumes of his commitment to his country. Joe’s unwavering sense of duty mirrored how he lived his life outside his military career—always prepared to lend a helpful hand.
Upon retiring from a career in the military, he met the love of his life, Carol. Carol and Joe were stuck at the hip and both complimented each others actions. Their love was a testament to companionship and mutual admiration until Carol’s untimely passing in 2024.
He is survived by his loving mother, Rose; sisters Frances MacCormick and Marie; brothers Lester and Shawn; daughter, Margaret Ann (Matt) Duff; sisters-in-law Anna Skinner and Kelly Henry; and brothers-in-law Joseph, Charlie (Sharon), and Francis (Susan). Joe will also be deeply missed fondly by his many nieces and nephews—Angus, Ray, Linda, Nathan, Kim, Keith, Jordan, Christopher, and Sean—as well as his special grand-niece, Lauren.
Sadly, Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Carol, father Ray Henry, and brothers Blair and Angus. In-laws Elizabeth, Russell, Henry, and Allie have also passed before him, and their memory continues to resonate with those who knew them.
Joe was an active member of our local Legion, Army Navy Air Force, and Pensioners Club, Joe could always be counted on for his involvement and assistance for whatever was needed. He participated in ‘morning prayers’ at the Army Navy Air Force on a regular basis. He also enjoyed playing poker most Saturdays with his friends. Thursday afternoons were dedicated to his Mom where they went for a game of crib. He was an avid biker and his love for the road was evident in the miles he traveled on his cherished Harley, including journeys as far-reaching as Alabama.
A devoted sports enthusiast, Joe’s passion for the Habs was unparalleled. He delighted in a friendly banter or razzing anyone who rooted for a rival team.
Joe will be deeply missed. The many people whose hearts he touched will forever carry his memory with grateful affection. Cremation has taken place.
