It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Julien, age 42, which occurred on March 18, 2024 in Gatineau. He leaves in deep mourning his parents Hélène Dussault and Louis Hanrahan; his sister Daphnée Hanrahan; several members of the Dussault and Hanrahan families as well as his faithful childhood friend Nicholas Himmelman and his family; many other friends and colleagues
Julien graduated from McGill University in Science and Engineering and pursued a professional career in environmental engineering. He joined the Canadian Naval Reserve in 2000 at HMCS Montcalm as a Logistics Officer. He served for over two decades, including as a part of the MARPAC/ MOG 4 team, in Quebec City at NFS(Q) and most recently, as a member of the DNP 2 team. Julien was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in 2019. He completed two six-month peace-keeping missions with the United Nations as a peacekeeper officer in Sudan. In 2023, he received official recognition from the Navy for his leadership role in implementing renewed human resources management policies. After having served in many roles throughout his long and distinguished career. along with a Canadian Forces Decoration, Julien earned a United Nations Mission in Sudan and Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medals. He was in the process of starting a new role with ADM(CIO) at the time of his passing. Julien collaborated with many members of the naval team over the course of his career, and the news of his death is felt across the navy team and the logistics community.
Julien was a committed soccer player and was captain, over the years, of his AAA team, as well as his high school and college teams. He was also an avid skier and mountain biker as well as a devoted pet owner. A seasoned solo traveler who has spent time on four continents, Julien was actively interested in the socio-political conditions of Africa and Asia
Julien’s family will welcome relatives and friends to share precious memories, Friday June 14, 2024 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.at the Villa du Domaine Cataraqui, Salle Vézina-Tessier, 2141 chemin Saint-Louis, Quebec (QC) G1T 1P9
