CLARKIN, Leo Aeneas, LCdr (Ret’d), CD, RCN, Sea Log
It is with heavy hearts that we announce our Husband and Father’s peaceful passing 29 December 2024 at the Ottawa General Hospital after living a life of 91 years full of love and joy.
Adoring husband and constant companion of Diana (nee Marie-Louise Bachelu, and her children; daughter Michele (David) and their children Colin & Lisa; and son Justis). Also, Leo’s late wife, Mary Margeret Sullivan. Proud and loving father of Leo Douglas LCDR RCN, Ret., (Fiona) and their children; Scott & Emma and Micheal Eugene (Catherine) and their children, Nicholas (Michele) and daughters Charlotte & Isla, Meaghan & Riley, James Gregory (deceased), daughter-in-law Sylvia and their two sons, Ryan and Jonathan).
Leo grew up on a large P.E.I. family farm with many brothers and sisters (many predeceased), nephews and nieces, but he stayed in close contact with many of them until the end. Plus, many retired naval colleagues, especially those of his beloved Pusser’s branch.
Dad had a varied naval career of over 30 years, and as kids, we got to experience the rigours of full of daylights and nights of Inuvik NWT, plus the idyllic scenery of Cornwall, England. Retirement brought time to smell the roses and listen to the songbirds whilst biking along the Ottawa River or walking along the Mer Bleue boardwalk. Leo was an enthusiastic weekly Bridge player at his seniors’ club and an active member of his parish community for more than 50 years. He never forgot his navy roots and looked forward, yearly, to the Pusser’s get-together and seeing his “old mates.”
A Funeral Mass will be held at the Annunciation of the Lord Church, 2414 Ogilvie Rd, on Wednesday, January 8th, at 11 a.m. A private family Interment at Hope Cemetery will follow. Leo requested no wake. In memoriam, donations to the Shepards of Good Hope or similar charities supporting the less fortunate are appreciated.
