OAKLEY, John (Jack) Henry Percival CWO (Ret’d), CD, RCLS

OakleyIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John “Jack” Henry Percival Oakley on May 8, 2025, at the age of 94. Beloved husband of Lowes Elaine Oakley, née Baragar, and father to Heather (Ken Ferguson), Cyndy DiCarlo (Mauro), and Phil. Loving grandfather to Adam, Charlotte, Mary, and Toby DiCarlo, and great-grandfather to Colton and Sloan DiCarlo-Bellissimo. He was predeceased his daughter, Trudy

A retired veteran, Jack served in both the Regular Force and the Militia.  He served as the RSM for the 28th Service Battalion (Militia) in Ottawa from 1976-1979.  He also held the appointment of Ottawa Militia District Sergeant-Major.  He held various volunteer positions for many years at the now-defunct Navy Club in Peterborough. Jack loved his dogs and had one for all his 74 years of marriage, except for two years during a posting to Germany and when he moved to a seniors’ residence. He also loved vegetable gardening.

Jack is remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends in Peterborough, Ottawa, as well as military buddies scattered across Canada. There was a private family service on May 21, 2025, with plans for a Celebration of Life later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peterborough Humane Society.
