TAYLOR, Richard (Dick) Douglas, CPO2 (Ret’d), CD, MM Tech, RCLS
Dick’s family is saddened to announce his passing after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dick, age 87, passed away 8 September, 2024 at the VG Hospital in Halifax, surrounded by his family. Born in Saint John, NB, Dick made his home in Lower Sackville for the last 53 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia (Barton) Taylor and his devoted daughters Jane, Brenda and Heather; his grandsons Justin (Krista) Clarke and Jay (Jess) Titchmarsh; his great-grandsons Benjamin and Carson Clarke, and Nate Titchmarsh; and a new great-grandson due in November.
Dick spent 32 years in the Royal Canadian Navy serving his country around the world with pride
Dick will be remembered by those who knew him as a true family man. His family was everything to him. He also made anyone who came into his home feel like family. His jovial nature and kind spirit reached far and wide. Dick was known by his grand children (and their friends) as “Bee” because his first grandchild, Juston, couldn’t say Grampy when he was little.
In his spare time, Dick played baseball for the Canadian Legion and loved all sports especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. His neighbours in Lower Sackville used to see him washing his car daily and keeping his cars pristine. Dick was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Calais Branch for 45 years
Dick and Pat also enjoyed many of their retirement years being snowbirds in Florida. And, of course, there were all of the family pets which he kept entertained and loved. His family will miss him dearly as he was the love of their lives and the centre of their worlds. Their special memories, love shared and life experiences together will never be forgotten.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday October 9, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the Sackville Legion (Calais Branch), 45 Sackville Cross Road, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only; donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
