O’CONNOR, JAMES (Jim) ARTHUR, Cdr (Ret’d), MMM, CD, RCN, Sea Log, RCLS

OConnorJim passed away peacefully in bed at his home in Victoria, BC. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jim is survived by son Derek (Kim), daughter Brenda, grandson Cameron, and his loving wife of fifty-five years, Ann O’Connor.

Jim joined the Navy reserves in 1961. He earned degrees in Economics and Business Admin at UVic. He was posted to HMCS Brunswicker in 1967 where he met his wife Ann. They would raise their two children while being posted to various locations including: HMCS Mckenzie in Victoria, a Logistics Officer in Ottawa, staff college at Greenwich, and Base Supply in Esquimalt.

Jim retired from the service in 1993 but as a dedicated worker, he would continue working in Ottawa and later work with his daughter at Lionheart Tax and volunteer with CVITP in Esquimalt.

Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus just as his father was. He was an avid reader with a passion for genealogy, on which he would spend countless hours. An enjoyer of sailing, Jim was a member of the CFSA and sailed in the Vic-Maui race. In retirement he spent many years in his RV camping with family & traveling all over the world with his wife.

Arrangements are under the care of First Memorial (4725 Falaise Dr, Victoria) and a private interment will be arranged at a later date. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Elizabeth’s Church (10030 3rd St, Sidney) on October 3 at 1:00 pm, reception to follow. All are welcome.

I knew Jim for over 50 years and always respected his honesty and integrity. He taught me to sail and installed a life long enthusiasm for a sport we both loved, I will miss him.
