We are sad to announce that Kenneth Arthur Neatby, who was born in Kennedy, Saskatchewan on February 27, 1934, passed away on July 14, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Atkins) and his children, Beverly (Lawrence), Blair (Clara) and Diane (Tim), his grand children, Kyle, Megan, Valerie, Kimberly, Baptiste, and his great grandson Lucah,. Ken will also be missed by his long-time friend, David Moore and more recent friends Marj and Neil Cowan.

In May 1951, he enlisted in the Canadian Army in Regina. Rifleman Neatby, an infantryman in the Regina Rifles Regiment, was deployed to Hanover, Germany as part of the 1st Canadian Rifle Battalion, 27th Brigade. After returning to Canada in 1953, he was rebadged to the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada in Calgary. In the late 1950’s, Ken remustered to the Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps and rose quickly to the rank of Sergeant. He served in Calgary, Winnipeg, Regina and Edmonton. From 1968 to 1970, Ken served in Soest, Federal Republic of Germany. He retuned to Winnipeg and retired in Calgary from the Canadian Armed Forces.

Ken went to high school in Regina, where he met Pat. When he returned from Germany to Regina, he dated Pat and they were married on April, 2, 1955. After that, they continued on their journey, leading them across the prairies and to Europe and eventually Calgary, where he worked for the Calgary school board. Eventually Ken and Pat made their home in the Sundre area.

Ken loved to read, was an excellent crib player and was always ready to engage in a heated discussion. He loved watching football and hockey and he curled and golfed from a young age. Ken enjoyed woodworking, and with the help of friends, built their home near Sundre. Many of Ken’s friends are the proud owners of a Deacon’s bench crafted by Ken.

Ken was active in the Lions Club in Calgary and Sundre. Ken volunteered at the Sundre Golf Course and later at Coyote Creek Golf Course, where he coached junior golf. He earned a hole in one on three separate occasions. In later years, Ken and Pat spent winters in Texas, golfing all year.

Ken and Pat loved living in the Sundre area, where they made many friends. They hosted many BBQ’s and enjoyed fun times with friends and family. They participated in many community activities, and were regulars at the local eateries
