CLARE, Mathew (Matt) Ronald CWO (Ret’d), Logistics – Cook
After a 2 months long struggle, Matt lost his final battle and in the loving arms of his family, left for his final Adventure. A loving and beloved husband to Valerie (West) for nearly 53 years. A proud Father to Ron (Diann), Pam (Barry) Nelson, and Dwayne (Michiko). He was insanely happy as the family grew with grandchildren; Kayla, Amber, Amie, Noriko, Miwa, Caitlynn and Matthew and his new great-granddaughter, Kinsley Ann.
He had an admirable career with the military, joining the Black Watch at 18, always considered himself an infantry soldier first, becoming a red seal cook along the way. Worn his green beret with pride as he served on the Iroquois, spent time with the Air Borne, and serviced as senior chef with the Air Force. He retired as a Chief.
After moving to Agassiz to be near the children he found retirement not quite what he expected (you can’t fish every day!) and jumped at a chance to work at Kent with a few old army buddies, making many more new ones along the way. After that he did a few years as an escort for Kent before he retired for real; he wanted more family time.
His life was filled with love, and joy until the final months, and we will want to celebrate that after the COVID-19 allows us to gather.
“Cor meum familia est” (my heart is family). Go with God
